Hijama

An ancient therapy for natural healing and relief.

Hijama at Prestons Injury Therapy in Prestons NSW

Hijama, the Arabic term for wet cupping, is a traditional therapy that uses gentle suction to draw out small amounts of blood, helping to remove toxins, impurities, fragmented blood cells and tissue fluid from the body.

The therapy uses localised negative pressure to create a vacuum that opens the muscle tissue, increases blood circulation and helps restore the body's natural balance. While it can be applied anywhere on the body, it is most often used over areas of pain for targeted relief.

All treatments are performed using sterile, single-use equipment by experienced practitioners.

Key benefits

  • Removal of toxins and inflammation
  • Reduced muscular pain

Frequently asked questions

What is Hijama?

Hijama — the Arabic term for wet cupping — is a traditional therapy that uses gentle suction to draw out small amounts of blood, removing toxins and impurities to promote the body's natural healing.

Does it hurt and how long do marks last?

The procedure is well tolerated. Cups are applied to the area, a small sterile incision is made, and suction draws out blood. Temporary bruising is normal and usually subsides within 10 days.

Is there anyone who should not have Hijama?

No GP referral is needed, however Hijama is not suitable if you are pregnant or taking blood thinners. As of April 2019, private health insurers no longer cover natural therapies such as Hijama.
